Semi-Naked and Buttercream Wedding Cakes
If you want a beautiful rustic wedding and don’t want an elaborate fancy cake, then semi-naked and buttercream wedding cakes are a great option for you. They look beautiful in converted barns and at country weddings.
Semi-naked cakes are sponge cakes, with a scraping of buttercream around the outside (to keep them fresh) and do not have any sugarpaste / fondant covering them. These look great when they are decorated with beautiful fresh flowers or fruits. If you want to add a touch of glamour or opulence, you can add even add gold leaf.
Buttercream cakes are another fab alternative if you’re not a fan of fondant. Having a ribbed effect is extremely popular, it gives an element of style and texture. These are contemporary and look clean and fresh.
Both these options tend to be more natural-looking, and as you don’t have the option to add texture and designs with sugarpaste, they look best decorated with either fresh or silk flowers to make the cake look romantic, elegant and pretty. See our blog on which flowers to choose for your wedding cake.
