We’re turning pink this October — and it’s personal 💗

There’s a pink makeover happening at Quality Cake Company! This October, we’re bringing out the balloons and bunting to raise money for Breast Cancer Now.

It’s a cause that means a great deal to our team, and the person behind the idea is someone very special to us: our colleague Jacky.

A familiar face behind the cakes

Jacky has been part of QCC for eight years. If you’ve admired one of our cute bunny or woodland-animal cakes, there’s a good chance she had something to do with it!

She’s bright, cheerful and wonderfully creative, with an eye for the tiny details that bring a cake to life. Give her an idea on paper and she’ll work out how to turn it into something you can actually eat.

She also shares our decidedly cheeky sense of humour. We take our cakes seriously. Ourselves? Not quite so much!

Giving something back

Throughout her experience of breast cancer, Jacky has turned to Breast Cancer Now for information, support and reassurance alongside her clinical care.

Having somewhere to ask questions and find understanding has meant a lot to her. So, when she suggested getting the shop involved in fundraising for the charity, we were absolutely on board.

As Jacky puts it:

“Raising awareness and money, and having the support of all the Quality Cake Company team, means the world to me.”

And she isn’t stopping at balloons and a collection box. Jacky is also training to become a volunteer with Breast Cancer Now, so she can draw on her own experience to support other people affected by breast cancer.

“Look after yourself — we’ve got this”

Jacky is now preparing for further surgery as part of her ongoing recovery. Our message to her is simple: take the time you need to look after yourself — we’ve got this.

We’re a small, all-women team, and looking out for each other is part of how we work. Whether it’s offering an extra pair of hands, covering a day or making each other laugh, everyone is ready to rally round.

We love making cakes, but it’s the people behind them who make QCC what it is. Jacky’s health and recovery come first.

Throughout October, you’ll find pink balloons, bunting and a Breast Cancer Now donation box in the shop. We’ll also be wearing pink for Wear It Pink day on Friday 23 October, and QCC will be making its own donation to the charity.

You can pop some cash in the collection box at the counter or scan the QR code to donate by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

There’s no need to buy anything. Whether you’re collecting a cake, choosing balloons or simply passing by, you’re very welcome to pop in and contribute.
