Quality Cake Company – Where it all started
Hello…
We’re Quality Cake Company! In case you don’t know us, we are three girls who love cake and just so happen to be a family. Angie and Lisa are sisters, and Izzy is Angie’s partner. You can find out more about us here. But we’re here to tell you where it all started…..
Angie and Lisa
So it all started with Jane Asher’s Quick Party Cakes that our Mum had in the kitchen in the 1980s. Lisa and Angie both loved looking through that book and deciding which cake to pick for our next birthday cake.
One of Angie’s favourite cakes was a replica of their Dad’s Atari computer. She remembers her cutting out all the keys and was blown away by the final cake!
Lisa and Angie’s mum made nearly every cake in the book – the farm, the monster and the princess. Or she at least took inspiration from it.
Angie and Lisa would help bake the cakes and we loved Christmas when we could help with the mince pies (we’re still obsessed with our mum’s mince pies today!) and of course, we helped by licking the bowl!
Izzy
Izzy loves cooking and baking. She would regularly make fairy cakes and jam tarts with her mum and loved decorating them and making them pretty.
Izzy has a degree in design and is very artistic and creative she also loves food, cooking and experimenting with flavours. Izzy met Angie in 2008.
Home bakers
Angie started by making the odd cake for close family and friends. Here’s a three-tier cake for their Mum’s birthday in 2010 – this had to be transported to Cornwall! Also, an Angry Bird’s cake was made for Lisa’s 26th birthday!
As Angie’s confidence grew, she took it a step further and enrolled on a Sugarcraft course and from then she was hooked. “I just love turning people’s requests into quality cakes.”
Izzy joined in and added her creative flair, they discovered that between them that they had a talent for making cakes and constructing them well, they knew that this is what they wanted to do.
Quality Cake Company begins
Quality Cake Company has been growing since 2012 when Angie and Izzy continued making cakes for friends and family – with Lisa helping out too.
Izzy’s Dad helped generate our name, and we created a Facebook page and a website. It soon grew and we are still growing each day.
With each cake we made, we learned something new and our skills improved. We watched every TV show related to cakes such as Cake Boss and Ace of Cakes. We would stay up late making a mess of the kitchen in order to perfect our latest creation.
As we got better the orders started to roll in.
Lisa, Isabel and Angie then spent many weekends experimenting with flavours and bringing people’s order to life. We were still working our other full-time jobs but using our spare time to plan for a full-time cake future. We created a brand a concept and an idea of what we wanted to do.
Getting the shop
And so, now we start a new chapter for our business….opening an actual shop! In 2017 we bought Jackie’s Cake Kitchen. (Jackie hung up her apron and has since retired) This was a well-established cake business that had been around for 30 years. We have spent time putting our own stamp on it, rebranding and here we are now. 1000’s of cakes later, the girls and their very own cake business.
