Buttercream wedding cakes have increased in popularity in recent years. They are a combination of the classic wedding cake meets semi-naked rustic style. Buttercream is known for its rich and creamy flavour, which almost everyone loves!

Why Buttercream?

Buttercream is what cake makers use to sandwich our layers of sponge together. It is used to coat all cakes as it creates a smooth coating to add sugarpaste to. In the case of buttercream-only cakes, we don’t add sugarpaste. This style of cake is ideal for those who are not keen on sugarpaste or who want a less formal cake. The overall finish can be left smooth, or ribbed, making it more formal than a semi-naked cake. Remember it will never give you a 100% flawless and totally smooth finish like a sugar-pasted cake will.

Decorating a Buttercream Wedding Cake

Buttercream cakes often have a homemade, rustic charm that appeals to couples who want a more relaxed and down-to-earth vibe for their wedding. Therefore they look beautiful when decorated with simple fresh flowers or fruit.

Buttercream wedding cakes are limited in their design. We can however add food colouring to match your theme. We can use cake frosting which is pure white or keep it naturally ivory. Finally, you could add a touch of gold leaf for some glamour!
