Wedding Cake Prices
We often get asked, “What are your wedding cake prices?” We don’t have standard prices as everything we make is bespoke. Every cake is quoted individually based on three main things:
1. Size
The main factor is size; how many portions the cake serves and how many tiers you have. Generally, people tend to cater for around 90% of their guests as not everyone eats cake! Even so, this is usually going to need to be at least three tiers, as a two-tier cake simply won’t serve 100 people!
So how is this worked out? Well the larger the size of each tier, the more it will cost as we use more ingredients. We know how many portions you will get from each tier, so we can advise the best options for your cake, based on how many portions you want and what you want the overall look of the cake to be.
How much?
The other common question is “How much is a four-tier cake?” Well even knowing the number of tiers, they can still yield different portions. Below are two four-tier cakes, but as you can see, they are very different in size and will be a very different price.
It is also important to be realistic about the amount of cake you’re ordering. Wedding cakes are large, and often serve 70, 80, 90 or 100 guests! To give you an idea, if you went to Starbucks, you would pay around ÂŁ3.50 for a mass-produced muffin. If you bought the same muffin for 100 guests, this costs ÂŁ350.
With wedding cakes, we use very similar ingredients, but on top of this, the cake is filled, placed on boards, stacked, covered with ganache, fondant iced and decorated to a high standard using our skills and time.
(This is why wedding cake prices are higher than the muffins!)
2. Flavour
Our cake flavours are split into three categories. The higher the category, the higher the price as it costs us more in ingredients and time to make.
Most couples will also have a different flavour for each tier, so an increase in our time to make three or four separate flavours will also add to the price.
3. Decoration
Most wedding cakes have decoration. Be it flowers, textures, or topped with a bride and groom. Decorations take time to do and this will increase the price of your cake.
The cake on the left is going to cost significantly less than the cake on the right. Decorations are priced based upon the cost of the actual stock as well as our time to add. Ruffles for example are all hand rolled out, individually cut, dried and placed onto the cake. And believe us when we tell you there are hundreds on a tier.
Flowers are a huge factor too. The price differences between silk, sugar or fresh flowers will impact your cake. See our blog about cake flowers to better explain these differences.
Hopefully, this explains why each cake is priced individually and we don’t have set prices. If you’d like to know more, if you’re planning your big day please get in touch for a no-obligation quote.
